The GREENO2 project was created with the aim of addressing contemporary environmental challenges, focusing on the implementation of green roofs as a key tool to promote sustainability in urban higher education institutions. This initiative was conceived with a global vision, reflecting an awareness of the need to adopt ecological and innovative practices to mitigate climate change and improve the quality of life within university communities and beyond.

GREENO2 responds to the urgent challenge outlined by the European Green Deal, which aims to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. Recognizing the crucial role of universities, the project seeks to actively involve students, academics, and communities in adopting sustainable practices.

In response to the growing need to adapt to climate change, the project aligns with the EU Strategy on Adaptation to Climate Change, striving to promote concrete actions through the installation of green roofs in higher education institutions. The adoption of green roofs not only provides environmental benefits but also creates vital spaces for urban flora and fauna. The project promotes innovation by demonstrating how sustainable architecture, exemplified by green roofs, can transform not only physical spaces but also how we learn and interact.

GREENO2 aims to shape a future where higher education institutions act as catalysts for change towards environmental sustainability. Through the widespread adoption of green roofs, the project hopes to have a positive impact on the academic community and society at large, contributing to building a healthier, more resilient, and conscious environment.
